AIDS Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo & Areas (ACCKWA) ACCKWA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting people who are infected, affected and at risk for HIV/AIDS. ACCKWA strives to create awareness about HIV/AIDS in the community. Centre for Community Based Research (CCBR) CCBR is focused on strengthening communities through social research. CCBR was founded in 1982, and believes in the power of knowledge to impact positive social change. CCBR’s carries out participatory and action-oriented research in a way that mobilizes people to participate as full and equal members of society. They work collaboratively with community members, marginalized groups, community organizations, government ministries, social and health services, and educational institutions when conducting their research.
Focus for Ethnic Women (FEW) FEW is a not-for-profit agency in Waterloo. They are dedicated to helping visible minority and immigrant women as they strive to succeed in Canadian society. Services include support in finding work, skills training, and ‘Language in the Workplace’ workshops, and a boutique where women can choice an outfit suitable for interviews or work.
Homelessness & Housing Umbrella Group (HHUG) (formally the Waterloo Region Community Homelessness Network) HHUG is a non-partisan group consisting of concerned individuals, including individuals with lived experience, agencies and groups committed to preventing and reducing homelessness in Waterloo. They strive to accomplish their objectives through education, advocacy and action.
Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre’s mandate is to breakdown the barriers to full participation of new Canadians in the Kitchener Waterloo community and surrounding areas. To achieve this they offer settlement counselling, job search support, Interpretation, ESL tutoring, and other resources to support families. The Social Action and Advocacy Committee of Waterloo Region (SAAC) SAAC is a committee organized by the YWCAs of Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge, and is made up of community agencies and individuals from throughout the Region. The mandate of the committee is to address inequities on behalf of women and children.
The Working Centre The Working Centre was established in the spring of 1982 as a response to unemployment and poverty in downtown Kitchener. They are a non-profit, community-based, volunteer organization that seeks to give individuals and groups access to tools and opportunities to become involved in the building of community projects in Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas.
Waterloo Region Community Legal Services (WRCLS), Cambridge WRCLS is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal services to those who meet our criteria for financial eligibility in the Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge area. Their services are free for those with little or no income and few resources. Services include Landlord & Tenant issues, social assistance, worker’s compensation, wills and power of attorney, and human rights issues.
Waterloo Region Immigrant Employment Network (WRIEN) WRIEN brings together agencies, employers, educators, governments and foreign trained professionals to support employers in attracting and hiring skilled immigrants. WRIEN also support immigrants to overcome systemic barriers to finding work and offers a program to connect job ready immigrants with employers.
Wellington Waterloo Local Health Integration Network (WWLHIN) The Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (WWLHIN) is charged with the responsibility of improving community access to quality healthcare through improved integration and coordination of fragmented health services. WWLHIN is one of 14 crown agencies established by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), most commonly referred to as “LHINs”. Family Violence Project of Waterloo Region The Family Violence Project of Waterloo Region is a collaborative of agencies that provides wrap-around, seamless services to victims of domestic violence from a single location. They hold forums and work with other groups to educate the general public on issues of violence, as well as provide advocacy.

Tamarack: An Institute for Community Engagement Tamarack develops and supports collaborative strategies that engage citizens and institutions to solve major community challenges, and to learn from and share these experiences. They believe they can find a better way forward if different sectors work together strategically and comprehensively to build stronger communities. Tamarack sponsors projects and provides learning resources, training, coaching and strategic consulting that enable people to collaborate and learn with and from each other.
The Kitchener-Waterloo YMCA (KW YMCA) The YMCA aims to strengthens their community by providing opportunities for personal growth and active involvement for all children, adults and families. They also offer a wide variety of immigration and settlement services along with resources and links for newcomers in Canada in the areas of education & training, settlement, employment, Kitchener-Waterloo information (e.g., ethnic associations), and volunteerism.
